Teaching
The Institute of Aerospace Medicine is deeply committed to education and the training of future specialists in aviation and aerospace medicine. Through general studies and interdisciplinary teaching formats, the institute ensures a solid academic foundation while offering specialized programs such as Aeromedical Examiner (AME) courses in collaboration with the Federal Aeromedical Institute (FAI) and the Aeromedical Center (AMC). In addition to anatomical teaching and clinical-focused modules, the institute leads innovative teaching formats including the Studium Generale and Mantelstudium programs, such as “What is Life?” in cooperation with the Faculty of Theology and the Study of Religion of the University of Zurich and about “Space Economy” together with the Ernst-Abbe-University of Applied Sciences in Jena, providing students with a broad, future-oriented perspective on the intersection of life sciences, medicine, and aerospace.
Another area of focus involves didactic pilot projects and practical collaborations aimed at using the topic of space to inspire students about the importance of STEM subjects. In this context, we work closely with the initiative Runway 29 (https://www.startbahn29.ch/) in Dübendorf and with the Ministry of Education of Nevis in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis.
